The weekend was coming and a typhoon was approaching. It was much cooler with the strong wind. A hot meal could bring warmth to the neighbours. When the editor and volunteers delivered a meal box to a scavenger nanny, she was very happy, smiling and kept thanking us for our kindness. Being able to reduce food waste and help others in need is the best reward.

Last week, volunteers joined bread and meal box collection and sharing action in eight districts, namely, Tai Wai, Fo Tan, Tai Po, Fanling, Tseung Kwan O, To Kwa Wan, Hung Hom and Causeway Bay. A total of 514 servings of bread and 42 meal boxes weighing 87.15 kgs in total were collected. The number of beneficiaries was 330.
Here were the results of each districts:
Tai Wai: On Friday, 23 servings of bread weighing 2.33 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were given out to the cleaners and scavengers in the district. The number of beneficiaries was 18.
Fo Tan: On Saturday, 41 servings of bread weighing 4.09 kgs were collected; on Sunday, the action was cancelled due to bad weather. All servings of bread were given out to the cleaners and members in the neighbourhood. The number of beneficiaries was 40.
Tai Po: On Wednesday, 23 servings of bread weighing 1.95 kgs were collected; on Friday, 21 servings of bread weighing 2.30 kgs were collected; on Saturday, 171 servings of bread weighing 18.73 kgs were collected; on Sunday, the action was cancelled due to bad weather. All servings of bread were given out to the cleaners, scavengers, the homeless and members in the neighbourhood. The number of beneficiaries was 108.
Fanling: On Tuesday, 59 servings of bread weighing 7.32 kgs were collected; on Friday, 21 servings of bread weighing 1.70 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were given out to the cleaners, security guards, scavengers and the homeless in the district. The number of beneficiaries was 43.
Sheung Shui: on Friday, there was no leftover bread and the action was cancelled.
Tseung Kwan O: On Saturday, 59 servings of bread weighing 4.89 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were given out to the elderly who lived alone and night guards in the district. The number of beneficiaries was 36.
To Kwa Wan: On Wednesday, 40 sandwiches (included in the total bread weight) weighing 7.10 kgs were collected; on Sunday, 23 servings of bread weighing 1.75 kgs were collected. All servings of bread were given out to the cleaners, the homeless and members in the neighbourhood. The number of beneficiaries was 25.
Hung Hom: On Friday, 22 meal boxes weighing 21.45 kgs were collected; 33 servings of bread weighing 4.09 kgs were collected. All meal boxes and bread were given out to the cleaners, scavengers and members in the To Kwa Wan neighbourhood. The number of beneficiaries was 40.
Causeway Bay: On Friday, 20 meal boxes weighing 11.20 kgs were collected. All meal boxes were given out to the homeless and members in Victoria Park and Tin Hau neighbourhood. The number of beneficiaries was 20.
